The Bear of Jukkasjärvi

Deep within the mythical freezing landscape of northern Scandinavia a classical drama evolves. The Opera begins with the pitiless collector Smirnov driving a dog sled fast trough the pristine landscape. It’s -30 degrees Celsius cold. He enters, with a specific mission, the Grand Ice Hall in Jukkasjärvi, lying above the arctic circle, far north of Sweden.
The ice columns are lit in magic colors, constructed from 1,000 tons of Torne River pure Ice. In this magical hall Smirnov meets the beautiful Popova and the duel begins. The soprano tinders under the sky of northern lights as the creditor gets closer with his delandes.
For the first time in history an opera has been performed and translated into the minority languages Meänkieli and Sami, the authenic sounds and spoken languages above the Scandinavian arctic circle.
